The golden beaches of Ashdod accommodate a wide variety of beach sports. Beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach handball, racquet sports, fitness machines, Frisbee, juggling, wake surfing, sand boarding, foot volley, and other seaside sport varieties – there is practically always somebody exercising at the beach in Ashdod.
Rare archeological exhibits and exceptional art galleries are only a small part of what Ashdod museums have to offer. The museums offer a variety of rich and varied activities and instruction programs, in temporary exhibition halls, as well as all over town which is full of outdoor art and archeological sites. The professional instructors of Ashdod museums tailor programs to fit the changing exhibitions, as well as the interests and backgrounds of the different visitors, in five languages: Hebrew, English, French, Spanish, and Russian.
The variety of entertainment Ashdod has to offer during the day – archeological and historical sites, natural reserves and parks, museums, cultural events and sports – does not detract from the city’s night-time public life. Every night, after a spectacular sunset, the swarthy citizens of Ashdod put on casual evening clothes and the city is theirs for the taking. There is evidence that Ashdod citizens knew how to have fun already thousands of years ago, and a tour of Ashdod’s night-time public spots shows that they still do.
Visiting Ashdod Mavo Reserve, also known as (Winter Thorn) HaShita HaMalbina Reserve allows your curiosity and your discoverer’s instinct to guide you through this sprawling and mysterious reserve, situated at the northern entrance to Ashdod. As you stand on the sandy ground, relax and enter the dense Winter Thorn grove which covers most of the reserve, and let your feet carry you along the narrow paths winding around the ancient trees.
